Public Hearing:  SB 6239 - Concerning civil marriage and
domestic partnerships. (Hearing is on the Proposed Substitute.)

The proposed substitute is posted on the Committee’s website at:

( The substitute involves language strengthening the
exemption for churches - basically they are not obligated to let people
use their facilities for weddings.

NEW LANGUAGE:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 7. A new section is added to chapter 26.04 RCW to read
 as follows:

(1) No religious organization is required to provide accommodations, facilities,

advantages, privileges, services, or goods related to the solemnization or 
celebration of a

marriage.

(2) A refusal by any religious organization to provide accommodations, facilities,

advantages, privileges, services, or goods related to the solemnization or 
celebration of a

marriage does not create a civil claim or cause of action.
